Welcome

Welcome to my blog.

We all have opinions on issues and events in America.

The picture is here to add some color to the page. :) It’s just a “Lobster Smack” that brings bait and supplies to local lobstermen and hauls their lobsters back to their storage facility for distribution.

We also have things happen in our daily lives that might be of interest to others.

I welcome any comments on just about any subject there is. I like experimenting with writing. I added a couple short stories I wrote many years ago under the “My Stories” link under “Categories” in the menu.

I don’t feel that I can design a personal blog to compete with the professionals and I also don’t have the expertise to go deep into all the technical points of blogging.

This is just a personal site for anyone wishing to relax and comment on living in America, just like the title says.

Most blogs depend on the author for all the information. I personally believe no one person knows all about everything. I believe there are many very knowledgeable people on the web. I put the topic with my often extremely unprofessional opinion, to try to tempt those with knowledge to share with others.

If there are topics you don’t see just leave a comment, I will do what I can to accommodate any registered user.

Fuel Prices Rising

August 26th, 2008

I noticed the last time I filled my boat with diesel that the price had risen slightly. I am wondering if this is a sign that it is time for those that Read the rest of this entry »

Land for sale by owner

August 26th, 2008

We see those signs beside the road as we drive around. I even posted here that I have a small lot in South Bristol, Maine that I would like to sell.

Fresh Lobster Bait, Pogies

August 24th, 2008

This is “Admiral Chris” whom I get my pogies from. I call him admiral as he owns several boats. I must say, pogies can’t be gotten any fresher and if you are looking for pogies for lobster bait in the Portland, Maine area, just look him up. I can contact him for you, if you contact me through this site.

The “admiral” is the one on the left in this picture.

The young man on the right is one of his crew. He has a great crew. I have gotten bait from him quite a few times and continue to do so whenever I can.

I put some of the pictures I took for those that have never seen pogies taken from the net. I must admit this is the manual way with a dip net, and the large boats use pumps for the fish but Chris catches a large amount of fish. He sells super reasonable compared to many places and in what is a reasonably bad year for lobster fishing has really helped me and a few others out with the cost of bait. Chickens

August 23rd, 2008

Pictures of chickens are all over the internet. I do like the Murray McMurray Hatchery site as they show very nice pictures of adult as well as baby chicks for many breeds.

This picture shows most of the breeds I have but these are hens, and naturally with some breeds, the roosters look quite different.

The second from the left is a Rhode Island Red hen, the 3 in the front and center are Silver Laced Wyandottes, and the lighter reddish brown hens are New Hampshire Reds. Also shown are a few Plymouth Barred Rock hens. I personally like the New Hampshire or Rhode Island Red the best. The New Hampshire Reds are slightly lighter in color, almost strawberry blond instead of the mahogany like the Rhode Island’s but from what I have seen the laying characteristics are about the same. I just happen to like the lighter color. Read the rest of this entry »

Sternmen for lobstering in Maine

August 23rd, 2008

I recently called a number for a person looking to work on a lobster boat as a “stern man” which is nothing but a helper on a lobster boat.

I didn’t ask many questions but explained the job. I got the number from someone who advertised on “craigslist” which Read the rest of this entry »

Endangered Maine Lobsters

August 18th, 2008

It probably sounds foolish for someone like myself to question the decisions and opinions of the experts, but I think they are out in left field on this one. I have been around lobstering for a great many years. I don’t see Read the rest of this entry »
